Team History

The 2000 - 2001 academic year marked a significant step forward in the history of rowing at Colgate University as the men's and women's crews were promoted to varsity programs from their previous club status.  Founded in 1974, crew was one of the oldest club sport at Colgate as well as one of the oldest women's sports program, varsity or club. In the fall of 1997, under the leadership of President Neil R. Grabois, the university announced that the Colgate Rowing Club would make the transition to a varsity program over the next three years.  Crew at Colgate has evolved from a loosely organized, student-run club to one of the top intercollegiate rowing programs in New York State.  Today, Colgate's men's and women's crews are highly competitive within New York State, the Patriot League, and at the national level.
